BLACK OPALS is a story about plus-size Lorna Malone, a girl who's having a day from hell. She had a one-night stand with her best friend, SWAT officer Tyrone Forrester, and had to sneak out before he woke up. She's an advertising executive and her wild night is making her run late to a photo shoot for her biggest client—Carraway Jewelers. On the way she stops at a gas station and manages to lock her keys—and a small fortune in black opal and diamond necklaces—in her car. Since there's no way she can let the car out of her sight, and with her AAA running late, she has to call Tyrone to come jimmy her door.
Tyrone is furious when he finds Lorna left him after their amazing night together. He's wanted her for years, but he got burned in his last relationship. His ex couldn't handle his dangerous job, so now he doesn't do serious, he doesn't do permanent, and he doesn't play for keeps. But with Lorna, one taste is all it takes to convince him that he's met his match—if he can help her see that her luscious curves make her desirable.
While he's willing to rescue her, it comes with a price. And he's going to make sure she pays up.
I hope people like BLACK OPALS as much as I liked writing it! These characters definitely hit home for me when I was writing their story, and as a plus-size woman myself, I really related to Lorna's conflict and body image issues. I think most women have something about themselves that they don't like, so this is a story about not just falling in love, but self-acceptance, which was very powerful to me.
Besides your significant other, who would you make love with if you could pick anyone in the world, any time throughout history and why?
Dr. George Taylor. A Victorian-era man who invented a steam-powered vibrator. Totally shag-worthy.
What is your favorite part of a man's body?
Well, besides the obvious answer to this question, I'd have to go with arms. Muscular, well-defined arms are just hot. Also, there's nothing sexier than a smart man. For me, brains will always be more attractive than brawn. If you have both in the same package, that's just dynamite.
If you could have one magical power, what would it be?
Teleportation. Going from one side of the world to another with a snap of my fingers would be fabulous. No more cramped road trips, no more jostling in airports. Heaven.
What do you wish men understood better about women's sexuality?
That sexual attraction and foreplay start in a woman's mind. If her head isn't in the right place, she's not going to be as into it as he's hoping.
What is the first book you remember reading and enjoying as a child?
My aunt used to read WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE to my brothers and me every night before bed. She'd do all the voices and we got to dance around and be "Wild Things." That's still one of my favorite books, and I bought it for my niece when she was born. I figured she'd grow into it.
His Kisses: Back of the Neck or Inside of the Thigh?
Back of the neck. It's sexy and intimate without being overtly sexual. Like I said, it all starts in a woman's mind. Kissing the back of the neck says "I want you" without saying "I want you and I'm going to hump your leg now. Brace yourself."
His Jaw: Stubbly or Clean-shaven?
Clean-shaven. There's nothing I hate more than whisker burn.
His Size: Length or Girth?
Too much or too little of anything is not good, but all things being equal, I'd go for girth.
His Chest: Hairy or Smooth?
I prefer smooth, but I'm pretty open to either. A hairy back though? No way in hell.
His Spirit: Adventurous or Responsible?
I can't have a bit of both? Fine, then I guess I'd go for responsible. Adventure is all well and good, but let's pay the bills before we run away for a weekend in Tahiti.
What else should we know about you?
I'm a Capricorn and I like long walks on the beach.

You've visited 11 countries and traveled extensively throughout the United States. What is one of the most interesting places you've visited?
Where do I begin? The history of the European cities I visited is awe-inspiring. I also loved the Scottish Highlands. Their stark beauty spoke to me. A city I've been to and would love to go back to one day is Seattle, and I think that's because I have an affinity for water.
There are so many places I want to travel back to and places I've never been but can't wait to visit that I keep saying I need to win the lotto just so I can travel.
Besides your significant other, who would you make love with if you could pick anyone in the world, any time throughout history and why?
Rowr. Gerard Butler. The accent. The body. The eyes! Um, sorry, let me wipe the drool up. Yeah, mmm...Gerard...
What is your favorite part of a man's body?
His eyes. That's always been the first thing I've noticed about a guy. I had a crush on a guy I grew up with for over 20 years almost solely due to his eyes. A nice, tight ass is always a good thing, too.
If you could have one magical power, what would it be?
To fly. I've always been fascinated by the power of flight.
What do you wish men understood better about women's sexuality?
Each woman is different and has different trigger points, just like every man is different and has different trigger points.
What is the first book you remember reading and enjoying as a child?
I'm pretty sure it was One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. We also had these books of poetry, one of which had some pretty freaky illustrations. My mom still has them and reads poems in them to my nephews.

Back of the neck. I'm really sensitive there and it's a level of trust, and therefore, intimacy for me.

Mmmm...this is a hard one. Most generally, I prefer clean-shaven because just as I've taken time to shave my legs for him, he's shaved for me. Reciprocity's a good thing!

Girth because I enjoy the sensation of fullness. If he takes his time and works it, you never notice a trade-off.

Hairy, but not a sweater. Actually, some guys with sweaters are almost enough to turn me to a smooth chest. Ick. Okay, getting my mind off of that image. Sorry!

Responsible. I appreciate a man who's a bit more mature to temper my own impulsiveness.

Like Ezmond in NIGHTS OF ARDENTIA, he was the most desired man wherever he went, by both women and men.

A collection of French fairy tales, especially one about a princess who had been changed into a little white cat until the prince came to free her. Maybe that's why I love both romance and fantasy fiction.
